The Jefferson Building and Sav-
ings Co. will open the remodeled
office at 127 South 4th St., Sept.
9. A preview showing of the office
will be held for the public Thirs-
day evening, Sept. 5, from 6 p.m.
to 9 p.m.
The Jefferson Building and
Savings Co. has been at this
location since 1915 when the
building was built. The company
was organized in 1896 and until
1915 conducted business from of-
fices in the Jefferson County
C ourt House.
With assets now more than 15
million dollars the company has
been in business the past 72
years and the expansion of the
Soffice provides for more conven-
ient service in the future.
The new office was designed
by Wilbert 0. Bjorklund, archi-
tect, to assure customer comfort
and convenience in a contempory
atmosphere.
The public areas of the build-
ing are fully carpeted, while the
executive office and closing
rooms are separated by floor to
ceiling glass walls.
The exterior of the building is
finished in black alberene stone
while the interior combines wal-
nut paneltng, ivory walls, and
avacado tweed carpet all high-
lighted by recessed lighting for
a distinguished and elegant ap-
pearance.
The tellers area is fronted by
walnut paneling with black mar-
ble inserts and contrasting white
counters. This area has been
expanded.
The buildings in the rear of the
office have been razed and a
parking lot is being constructed,

The remodeling program was
the result of extensive research
done by the board of directors.
Mr. Lane, Sr., said the future
economic conditions of the Steu-
benville area is very bright.
The future growth of the com-
munity and the responsibilities
of the Jefferson Building and
Savings Co. to aid this growth
were the deciding factors to ex-
pand the office, he added.
W intersville
Council Holds
Session
The Wintersville Council met
in special session Thursday,
August 28, at the City Building,
with Mayor Anthony Petrozzi,
presiding.
Mr. R.P. Watson, chairman of
the Wintersville Planning Com-
mission submitted a letter to
council, stating the commission
concluded months of study re-
garding the rezoning of properties
along Route 43 from the Inter-
section of Route 22 to the cor-
porate limits, north. He recom-
mended all properties abutting
Route 43 be zoned Commercial.
The Mayor stated he had re-
ceived numerous requests for
commercially zoned areas on Rt.
#43.
Legislation will be drawn to
advertise for a public hearing on
commercial zoning of Route 43.
The planning commission also
suggested commercial zoning for
the LuRay Industries property
which is proposed for the annex-
ation to the Village of Winters-
ville, on Route 43. The annex-
ation proposal is to be heard
before the County Commissioners
who are scheduling a hearing for
11 A.M. Tuesday, September 24.
Mayor Petrozzi reported no
new developments in the es-
tablishment of a junk yard by
Vernon Lackey on Canton Road.

National Steel President Joins Century Clue
Clifford Cribbs, Secretary Treasurer of the Jefferson Building & Loan

modeled building on Monday, September 9.

The Century Club of The College of Steubenville has a new member in Mr. George A. Stinson, presiaent
of the National Steel Company, shown above presenting his membership check to the Rev. Columba J.
Devlin, T.O.R., president of the College, while the Rev. Philip A. Clarke, T.O.R., director of development,
looks on.
The Century Club is planning its annual stag dinner for Wednesday, September 11, in Antonan Hall on
the campus. Funds realized by the group go toward building the endowment fund of the College. Mr.
Stinson's membership contribution will be doubled by the firm he heads, since National Steel is one of the
many corporations which has a matching gift program, in which any contribution made by any employee
to a college or university is matched by the company.
