Doctors Ask Citizens Aid In Postponing Gill Closin

Wintersville Citizen for publication by the Medical and Dental U ficial
Staffs of the Gill Memorial Hospital.
This is an open letter to the citizens of the Tri-State area from Indian Creek
the Medical and Dental staff of Gill Memorial Hospital apropos to
the impending closing of Gill Memorial Hospital. We will endeavor Levy Passes I

to convey the true feelings of the medical community in general and
our Medical-Dental staff in particular about this grave situation. The Indian Creek

A meeting was convened by the Gill Medical-Dental staff in con- 1-B
junction with interested citizens and public officials among whom 2-A
were Mayor Andrew Miller, State Representative Douglas Applegate, 3-A
Councilmen Arthur Bowers and Stanley Paprocki and Housing Director 3-B
Paul Durbak. The purpose of the meeting was to assess the impact 4-A
of this closure and to formulate a course of action to alleviate the 4-B
resulting acute hospital bed shortage. 4C
It was unanimously agreed that the loss of sixty-six beds would

Mr. 1nd Mrs. Stanley Walenciej of 753 Highland Ave., Steubenville,
have received word that their son, Pfc Michael (Whiz) Bise, was
wounded in action while serving in Viet Nam in Bien Hue with the
199th Light Infantry Brigade for the second time on April 16th, with
scrapnel wounds of the leg. Pfc. Bise was wounded the first time
on March 25th. He has been awarded the Purple Heart with the Oak
Leaf Cluster.
Pfc. Bise, a 1967 graduate of Steubenville High School, entered
the service on August 15th of 1967, and graduated from Leadership
School on January 19, 1968 at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He
arrived in Viet Nam in February, 1968.
Michael is recuperating in a hospital In Japan and is scheduled to
return to Viet Nam the latter part of May.
