Receives Bronze Medal

Ninth Annual Parade Of Quartets Planned
Pfc. Joseph N. Longo, 25, hus-
band of Mrs. Jackie (Bell) Longo
of 2435 Cleveland Avenue, Steu-
benville has received his Army's
Bronze Star Medal for hero's
action in Viet Nam.
The medal was presented to
him in ceremonies at Bear Cat,
Vietnam. Pvt. Longo was cited
for action last November 24,
while serving as a rifleman with
his company, the 9th Infantry
Division, on a search and de-
stroy mission in Bien Hoa pro-
vince.
As the unit moved through
the dense jungle, it suddenly came
under a heavy volume of fire
from a concealed Viet Cong force.
In the initial burst of fire, Pvt.
Longo was seriously wounded
but he remained in his position,
directing fire upon the Viet Cong.
As his unit moved to a new
position to allow air strikes to
be called in on the guerilla force,
Pvt. Longo provided cover fire
for his comrades' maneuver.
His citation reads in part,
"Pvt. Longo's courage and ag-
gressiveness were an inspiration
to all and contributed signi-
ficantly to the overwhelming de-
feat of the enemy."

on October 6, 1966. He arrived
