WINTERSYILLE CITIZEN
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 1966 - TWELVE PAGES
Wayne Van Dine, veteran WSTV-
TV Newsman and Sports Direc-
tor, has been named Newscaster
for Channel 9's 11:00 p.m. News,
according to an announcement by
Ted Eiland, Vice-president-gen-
eral manager of the Rust Craft
Station.
Wayne Van Dine is considered
one of Channel 9's crack news
reporter-photographers, and is
unquestionably the best known,
most widely publicized television
personality in the Wheeling-Steu-
benville area. He is much in de-
mand as a speaker and toast-
master for a wide range of or-
ganizations and functions.
Although he has been serving
as Sports Director of WSTV-
TV for some five years, he has
always had his own regular news
program, a regular weather
show, and has devoted more than
half of his time as one of the
Station's principal News Report-
er-Photographers and News Wri-
ters.
With a background of almost
ten years in covering news and
sports events on both radio and
TV in the Upper Ohio Valley,
Wayne also serves as on-the-
air correspondent in this area
for KDKA Radio.
An expert golfer, he could, and
does, match score cards with
many of the pros. Van Dine is
a regular paricipant in the an-
nual Ham-Am Golf Tournament
in Pittsburgh, and has a first-
name relationship with many of
a partial balance of power at
the Federal level by sending
Republicans to the United States
Congress in January. "For this
reason," he said, "we urge every
voter to support the candidancy
of William H, Weir, the Repub-
lican candidate for the United
States House of Representatives
from our own 18th Congressional
District of Ohio.'
Referring to the tounty races
for Auditor and Commissioner,
the chairman pointed out that
the cost of running Jefferson
County has been climbing at the
rate of several hundred thousand
dollars per year. Myers said,
"We feel that a change is long
overdue, and we hope the tax-
payers of this county will agree
by electing Orant Cicone Audi-
tor, and George Huscroft County
Corn missioner.

Jefferson County
Republican Headquarters
Officially Opened
Jefferson County Republican
.Headquarters was opened of-
ficially today at 183Northm Fourth
Street in Steubenville, Ohio by
Walter4 L. Myers, Jr., Chair-
man of the County Republican
Central and Executive Commit-
tees. Most of the County's key
GOP leaders attended the cere-
monies.
During the opening ceremonies,
Myers announced the appointment
area chairmen who will assist
precinct committeemen in carry-
ing out the campaign plans. The
new Republican leaders are:
Bergholz Area, Mrs. Hazel
Featheringham; Brilliant, Mrs.
John Shanahan; Dillonvale,
Katherin Niehart; Island Creek,
Mrs. Chauncey Speaker; Mingo,
Mike Dodasovich; Mt. Pleas-
ant, Mrs. Della Fox; North Coun-
ty, Mrs. William Carlisle; Rich-
mond, Mrs. Charles Carmon;
Smithfield, Mrs. Josephine
Harris; Tiltonsville, Mrs. Cur-
tis Stillwell; Toronto, Mrs. John
Yocum; Wintersville, Mrs.
Charles McConnell. He said that
the work of the area chairmen
would be headed by Mrs. Jean
Barren, Jefferson County Chair-
woman.
Commenting on the campaign,
Myers explained to those present
that the 1966 election is pro-
bably the most important of their
life-time because of the many
critical decisions facing the
voters. He said, "Because of
the United States Supreme
Court's decision affecting legis-
lative reapportionment, both hou-
ses of the 107th Ohio General
Assembly will be drastically al-
tered." "Therefore," he said
"we must be very sure that
we send only the best man avail-
able to Columbus to represent
the interests of the people of
Jefferson County, Eastern Ohio,
and the State. The best men
available, we believe, are Joseph
A. Bell, our candidate for State
Representative, and John R.
Longsworth, our candidate for
State Senator."
Commenting on the national
political scene, the County Chair-
man said that the country is now
virtually under one-party rule
with all three branches of our
Federal government dominated
by the spenders and advocates
of big government.
Myers said that the voters have
an opportunity to restore at least
Superintendent.
