Wintersville
Police Have
Busy Week
Members of the Wintersville
Police Department were kept
more than busy last week as they
investigated a total of thirty-five
complaints including four traffic
accidents.
Cars driven by Morris Cline of
Box 98, East Springfield and
James Kimble of R. D. #1, Iron-
dale, Ohio were involved in an
accident at the intersection of
Routes 22 and 43. Mr. Kimble
was pulling from the Humble Sta-
tion and drove into the path of the
Cline vehicle. No arrests were
made.
Police investigated an accident
at 5:40 p.m. on August 16, when a
motorcycle driven by James Al-
bert Rice, R. D. #2, Maplewood
Avenue and a car driven by For-
rest C. Cline, 113 McConnell
Avenue, Wintersville were in-
volved in a collision on Route 22
near the intersection of Routes
22 and 43 causing minor damage
to both vehicles. Mr. Rice was
removed to the Ohio Valley Hos-
pital where he was treated and
released for cuts of the little
finger and left hand. Mr. Cline
was cited into Wintersville Ma-
yors Court on charges of failure
to yield the right of way.
An accident involving a truck
driven by Charles Montgomery
of 940 Sherman Avenue, Steu-
benville and a car belonging to
Harry B. Hendricks of 150 Gumps
Lane, Wintersville, resulted in
injury to one of the passengers
on Friday, August 19 at 12:30
p.m. Mrs. Dorcas V. Hendricks
suffered injury to her neck when
the Montgomery vehicle backed
into the Hendrick's car which
was parked in a private drive
at 144 Canton Road. Mrs. Hen-
dricks said that she would see
her doctor. The Hendricks' ve-
hicle sustained minor damages
in the accident.
Wintersville Police were called
on Thursday to investigate a re-
port of a tractor on fire at the
rear of 133 Canton Road. Police
arrived to find a tractor grader
completely upside down and burn-
ing fiercely. the Wintersville
Volunteer Fire Department was
on the scene and used one
booster line plus a turret nozzle
to extinguish the blaze. The inci-
dent occurred when the grader,
owned by the Preston Woodall
Company began to slip on one side
and overturned. The driver.
Everett Foreman, age 39, of
R. D. #1, Richmond, was able to
leap clear and thus avoid serious
injury. Damage to the vehicle
was estimated at $300.00.
Mrs. Frances Cain of Meadow
Road notified Police that a watch
was missing from her home and
Charles Klasic of 105 Meadow
Road reported to Wintersville
Police the theft from his home of
two shotguns which had been taken
sometime during the week while
the family had been away. En-
trance had been gained to the
home through a basement door.
Police are continuing their in-
vestigation.
While patrolling the area of
Fernwood Road at 7 p.m. on Au-
gust 19, Chief Victor Calabrese
discovered that the telephone
booth located in front of the
Grange Hall had been the victim
of vandals who had torn the tele-
phone from the wall and left it
lying on the sidewalk. Telephone
Company officials were notified
and placed the damage to the
booth at $35.00. Chief Calabrese
warned that these acts of vanda-
lism will not be tolerated and that

Louis J. Schneider, Jr., Judge of
the Ohio Supreme Court will ad-
dress a gathering of Jefferson
County Republicans assembled
for a legislative campaign dinner
in Brilliant, Ohio, August 30.
The dinner, sponsored by the
Brilliant Republican Club, is
being given in honor of Joseph A.
Bell, favorite son candidate for
Representative to the 107th Ohio
General Assembly from the 33rd
House District.
Announcement of Judge Schnei-
der's visit to Jefferson County
was made by W. J. Abel, presi-
dent of the Brilliant organization.
Judge Schneider is a native of
Cincinnati, Ohio, and attended
public schools in that city. He
attended Princeton University
the offenders will be prosecuted
when apprehended.
On Wednesday, Police received
a call from Mrs. Robert Morris
of Woodvue Lane, informing them
that her two-year old daughter
was missing. After a careful
search of the area, the tot was
found soundly sleeping in aneigh-
bor's yard.
While turning around at Dltt-
mar's Grocery at Wintersville's
Eastern limits, Police were
hailed by Miss Ruth Komestakes
who requested emergency trans-
portation to St. John Hospital of
a child who had suffered injury to
an ear in an accident at their
home. The child was treated and
released to the care of the family
physician.
There were several complaints
to the Police Department con-
cerning packs of dogs which have
been running loose through
several sections of Wintersville.
Citing the need for adequate pro-
tection of our children about to
return to school, Chief Calabrese
reminds dog owners that all dogs
must be kept on a leash, that no
dog shall be permitted to run
loose, and that violators of this
ordinance will be subject to fine
and subsequent arrest when they
are found in violation.
Wintersville Police were called
to assist the Cross Creek Police
Department in search of a small
boy who had wandered away from
a home in the Gould's Area. The
boy and his mother who are from
Cleveland, were visiting friends
when the boy ran away after a
disagreement with his mother.

received an LLB. Degree from
the University of Cincinnati Law
School in 1949 following his re-
turn from Military Service.
During World War H, Judge
Schneider spend three and one
half years in the United States
Army Infantry as a First Lieu-
tenant serving both in Alaska and
the Aleutian Islands. He was ad-
mitted to the Ohio Bar in 1949,
and is a member of the Cincin-
nati Ohio State and American
Bar Associations. He is co-
author of "Schneider's Criminal
Code." Judge Schneider is a
member of Phi Delta Phi, the
Order of Coif., the Cincinnatus
Association, Civic Club of Cin-
cinnati, Beta Theta Pi, the A-
merican Legion, and the Sons
of Union Veterans of the Civil
War. He is a member of the
Mariemont Community Church.
In 1950, Judge Schneider was
elected to the Ohio House of
Representatives and served in the
legislature for ten years. As a
member of the Ohio House, he
served as a member of the Fi-
nance, Public Affairs, and Un-
American Activities Committee.
He also served as chairman of
the Commerce and Transporta-
tion Committee, Judiciary, and
Elections and Metropolitan Areas
Committees.
As a legislator, Judge Schneider
authored the Ohio Building Code
enabling legislation and the Ad-
ministrative Procedure Act. He
was a Commissioner of Hamilton
County from July 1, 1959 to April
12, 1963, when he was appointed
Tax Commissioner of Ohio by
Governor James A. Rhodes. He
was elected Judge of the Ohio
Supreme Court, November 1964
for the unexpired term ending
December 21, 1966. Judge Sch-
neider is a candidate for re-
election in 1966.
He was later located walking up
Coal Hill.
Another of many accidents on
that part of Route 43 known as
Swinford's Curve took place on
August 23 at 4 p.m. when a truck
driven by 17 year old Richard L.
Brownlee of R. D. #3, Steuben-
ville, heading south went out of
control on the wet pavement as
it rounded the curve and went over
on its side.
Brownlee and apassenger, Tho-
m as R. Thompson of 1447 West
Market Street, Steubenville were
not injured in the accident. Da-
mages to the truck were esti-
mated at $100 with $15 indamage
to a mail box owned by Henry A.
Mowry of Canton Road which was
damaged in the incident.
Wintersville Police were called
upon by the Jefferson County
Sheriff's Office to assist in the
apprehension of four juveniles
who had been discovered after
they had broken into a house in
Overlook Hills by Mr. DwightSul-
livan of 1511 Maryland Avenue,
Steubenville. Mr. Sullivan suf-
fered injury to one hand as he at-
tempted to hold the suspects un-
til the Police arrived. The ju-
veniles, all from the Buckeye
Lake Area were to be detained
in the juvenile detention quarters
until disposition of their cases.

TO HOLD CAR WASH
Wintersville Explorer Post #12
will sponsor a car wash at the
Wintersville Methodist Church
parking lot from 9 a.m. to 2p.m.
on Saturday, August 27.

Charles William Probert, Jr.,
and David Barnhouse, both Win-
tersville High School Students,
have been invited to sing with the
Ohio State Fair Youth Choir at
the 1966 Ohio State Fair. The
announcement was made by Glen-
ville Thomas, Choir Director.
The choir will consist of 325
youths who have exhibited excep-
tional vocal ability and will draw
its members from every county
throughout the state. This group
constitutes the world's largest
all-youth, four-part choir. Mr.
Thomas, who is also Director of
Music for Zanesville High School,
also announced that the choir will
convene for rehearsals on August
30th. with concerts presented
over the long Labor Day weekend.

of the recently consolidated
Cross Creek, Mingo Junction and
Wayne schools into the Indian
Creek School District has re-
leased the following schedule for
the opening of school:
First Day of Pupil Attendance
The first day of pupil attendance
in the Cross Creek and Wayne
attendance areas is Monday, Au-
gust 29, at the usual morning
starting time.
The Mingo Junction attendance
area will begin on Monday, Au-
gust 29, at 12:30 in the after-
noon.
Mingo Junction kindergarten pu-
pils who will attend the afternoon
class session are to report for
registration at 12:30 p.m., Mon-
day, August 29.
The kindergarten pupils attend-
ing the morning class session will
report for registration on Tues-
day, August 30, at 8:30 a.m.
Cafeterias
The cafeterias at the Unionport
and Wayne buildings will open
Monday, August 29.
The cafeterias at Wintersville
High, Buchanan Junior High, Ban-
tam Ridge, Long Run, Stark and
Wintersville Elementaries will
open Wednesday, August 31. The
cost of individual half pints of
milk at the cafeterias will be
three cents for chocolate and two
cents for white. The cost of milk

History will start on Thursday,
August 25 and continue through
Labor Day, September 5.

Trans port ation
Bus service for non - public
school children will begin Sep-
tember 1. Pupils from Wayne
and Unionport will leave Wayne
School at approximately 8:00 a.m.
The pupils from Hopedale will be
picked up atHopedale High School
at 7:50 a.m.
Bus service for Harmony, Hill's
Central, Mingo High, and St.
Agnes Schools will follow the
same schedule as last year.
Pupils attending Catholic Cen-
tral High School frorp the Mingo
Junction area will be picked up
by bus number 3 beginning at 7:40
a.m., with loading points at Mc-
Lister and Standard Avenues,
Brettell (Pool) Road, McLister
and Longview, Romano's Store,
and the George residence.
Bus number 6 to Catholic Cen-
tral High School will begin its
route to 8:10 a.m. from Harmony
School with stops at Harmony
Methodist Church, Commercial
and Ravine Streets, and Commer-
cial and Logan Streets. After the
last pick up point, the bus will
travel Route 7 and Lincoln Avenue
to the high school . ,
The Wintersvll]4 area non-
